On pro mode I recommend
1) Unequip the vests, they are useless. Maybe you you get an extra hit on dogs, but most of the time they just waste inventory space.
2) Avoid special weapons, they suck. The Minigun and bow are useless.
3) Get infinite ammo for the strongest shotgun, (900 attack) for the PS1, the best magnum (it go through armored enemies) and rockets. Use shotgun for crowd control, Sniper for bow enemies and distant enemies, magnum for close quarter combat (armored and tough enemies and rocket launcher for everything. Most bosses die in one hit from the RL and you can spam it on close enemies. You can even kill very close enemies with the RL as long as you aim at the floor (2 meters seems to be the magic distance).
