Asking a girl to the prom

Don't say "i have something important to ask you alone"

Just say "hey, can I see you for a minute?"

 

Say that, hope everyone else keeps walking/leaves us alone, and then asks her is the best choice? That sounds better than calling I guess. Is this what you would do?
