Working at SEGA, I know that there was never a "buy this game to save the industry" part to any of the marketing or messaging that went out with the game.

People suggest the game because they like it, and they probably feel that you would too. If you aren't interested it should be as easy as saying "No thanks", or if you are interested just ask for more info or check around the web.

There is a little truth to the notion that buying the game helps the genre; when it all comes down to it, gaming is a business and games that don't sell don't see sequels; games that turn a big profit are much more likely to see a continuation - even if sales for the game are over longer periods of time, which Valkyria is seeing.

I think the bottom line is simply that people who play the game understand what a gem it is - one of those games that you know will be a classic even ten or twenty years from now. When hardcore fans truly have a passion for a game, and with Valkyria as an example, when that game doesn't sell as well as they know it should - that's when the fans will often try to help by spreading the word. Honestly, I think it's fantastic - and I'm right there among them.

Well kudos to you guys then! the game really is fantastic  :)
