The first one not so much... But definitely play the second one.
I believe the second one has a recap of the first one, but it's been over a year since I played it so I don't remember.

If the rumor ever came true (not counting which platform it appears on), I hope that it has more encounters like the giant battle near the end of the second game. That part was pretty darn sweet.
