Wasnt the 360 released in Japan in Dec of 2005? It took over 3 years to reach that mark. I really dont think thats cause for a celebration. Does MS consider that a success in Japan?

Sure, since the Xbox didn't even sell 500k in the same time span.

Im sorry dude, I just dont see that being a success on any level. Its better sure, but still seems like they need to give it up in Japan. Maybe some more games that appeal to the Japanese gamers will help.  Maybe they will release FF13 in Japan.

Because they've sold double what they sold last gen.  And they secured development support from a lot of Japanese developers.

If we use your logic, then the PS3 is a HUGE failure in NA and Japan because its sold over 60% LESS than it did the previous gen.  But its not a huge failure because the world isn't that black and white.

See? this is what I am talking about.  I didnt mention PS3 or NA.  Xbox in Japan that is all. Fanboys twist and turn everything into a "this vs that" console war.  Is the PS3 a HUGE success in NA? NOPE.  But it has NOTHING to do with Xbox in Japan. Xbox is failing there thats all I meant to say. I wish it wasnt true, but it is. Because if it succeeds we will hopefully get more games.

And since you HAD to mention the PS3, it aint exactly kickin any ass over there either.  And before you mention it again, YES I think the PS3 is failing in Japan.  Just an opinion, please dont twist it to suit your fanboyism.

It is a success. Why? The Japanese never by ANY outside products. Only McDonalds is considered a winnner over there.

You have to understand M$ have done tramendously well considering the Japanese would always choose Sony and Nintendo over M$ even if the Wii was like the 360 nad the 360 was like the Wii.

Yes, it's all because of xenophobia. It wouldn't be because Microsoft's first entrance to the console market had absolutely no appeal to the Japanese outside of Dead or Alive 3, and that its first impression to the Japanese market was that of a westernized shooter box? Don't blame the market for not buying something, because that's just petty. And do some outside research before claiming that McDonalds is the only popular western thing in Japan.

The Xbox brand name in Japan was immediately stamped as unpopular and uncool, so even the 360, with its higher quality library and bigger selection of RPGs still doesn't hold much appeal. And it's not as simple as JRPG=WIN!!! in Japan anymore anyways.

It's a nice numerical achievement, but market wise, it's pretty insignificant.
