Actually, I've heard several reports of people who just had their X360s too close to their subwoofers, and again while playing Rock Band or Guitar Hero, getting their discs scratched. When I say too close, I don't mean on top, either -- a few feet away, actually.
It *is* a problem. You should never have your 360 vertical, for this reason, and the ventilation reason.
