The "gamer" cynicism doeasn't really matter to the "casual" and non-gamers. Nintendo has been succesful at bringing the message out that it's okay to play videogames to the mainstream. The soccer moms, hockey dads and baking grannies will pick up the Wii because it is something new and breaks away from the stereotypical videogaming stereotypes. It also actually delivers(from their perspective), despite what the extreme minority consisting of graphic whores, "mature game enthusiast"(of which the majority are in their teens) and the occasional nerdy techie who jizzes at the thought of rooftopping megahertz, tons of kilobits and millions of bytes tells you. You think it is these hardcore types keeping EA and other publishers in business despite rehashing a whole bunch of mediocre franchises year after year? Take the fashion world for instance. You will hear about the glitz and glamour of Fall Fashion Week, be in awe about that $10,000 dress you saw on the red carpet, scratch your head at $200 jeans, wonder at the many foreign sounding names of designers. In reality, the money made from these types of extravagance are nothing compared to the uglier side of garment making. Ready-to-wear, mass marketed low quality crap and Walmart clothing are the bread and butter of the industry and eclipses high fashion stuff at least 10-1 in dollar revenue.
