I'm surprised no one has made a topic discussing the finale and overall thoughts of the finished series Battlestar Galactica. I managed to DL a copy of the finale last night becuse I missed the original airing on Sci Fi.
Overall I thought it was pretty good. I knew the show was incapable of tying up every loose end. There just wasn't enough time at the molasses pace they were moving at the last ten episodes. At least enough was explained, or partially explained to give a nice closure to the series. It was good to finally find out what the Caprica 6 that only Baltar could see actually was, and it was humorous to find out the real Caprica 6 has her own angelic Baltar looking after her also. The Kara Thrace stuff was properly done, but I can't help but think she still didn't seem to be at peace even at the end. I wasn't sold on the Lee and Bill Adama, "I need to be alone" and "I need to travel alone" endings. It was enough having Tyrol do it five minutes earlier, and he was the only one that was legitimately pissed at people enough to want something like that.
The first hour was actually better. The battle was fantastic. It was the best action the show has ever seen. I like Boomer's exit from the show. It was appropriate. Tyrol finding out about Cally's death and killing Tory was well overdue. I'm not sure how I feel about the villains of the story being allowed to live on, but I suppose since the world is still around 150,000 years later that nothing happened like on New Caprica.
One thing I don't quite get is were only the Cylon machines the ones to leave, or did the humanoid rebels leave with them too? It wouldnt make sense for the rebels to leave because their means or procreating lies with the humans. Anyone have any answers on that?
Overall the show was at it's best during the first two seasons. I'm sure everyone can agree with me on that. I will give special consideration to the two part story involving Tom Zareck and Felix Gaeta running a mutiny on the ship. That was classic Battlestar tension right there. I still think the best episodes of the series is probably the first one, "33" where the Cylons would jump into the fleet's range every 33 minutes and no one knew why.
