There is a definite air of negativity surrounding Sony's PS3. Fans argue that Sony needs to act now. They are losing the gaming market rapidly. They need to offer competitive console deals, price cuts and have an aggressive marketing strategies in conjunction with their triple A titles, just like Microsoft

Sony keeps reinforcing their idea of looking-towards-the-future and looking away from the immediate. Gamers are freaking out because last Christmas the X360 dominated the HD console market.

[Quote] 'Dille explained that Sony had always pursued a "a profit goal" with PlayStation 3, whereas the competition had "a market share goal" based around a "very aggressive pricing strategy" that cost "a lot of money".'

We need to understand that Sony isn't suddenly panicking about their console sales. They haven't been taken by surprise. Its not like NPD sales data came out and the whole office at Sony HQ starts an uproar. Last Christmas the X360 trumped the PS3 because it was intentional. Their unit sales were exactly where they expected it to be, plus or minus some noise-factor discrepencies.

There is a good reason why Hirai says that by the end of this gaming generation, there is no way the PS3 will be outsold by their competition. and I don't think his statement is as groundless as it appears. As a gamer, ultimately its all about what games Sony fans gets to play. In 2008 Sony delivered and I have reason to believe in 2009 they will deliver again.

People are STILL hanging on to this marketing talk???

NO.

Last place consoles that are still losing money to produce do not last for 10 year spans.

The PS2 may go to 10 years (it's 9 years old now) but that was the #1 console of the 6th generation & also the biggest selling home console of all time (counting all Game Boy lines together including Advance would make the Game Boy biggest of all time period).

Even so, the PS2 is on its way out & this year will probably be its final year to be viable in the market. The PS3 is nowhere near what PS2 accomplished so once again...

NO.
