errr... I thought you could always buy a IR remote and use the dongle for any universal remote...

I have one, but if you had bothered to read above you would see my opinion of it.

Fucking finally. This is PS3 news of the year as far as I'm concerned.

-edit-

And I do have the Nyko dongle that goes into the USB port and it's ass.  The buttons don't always work, when you press a direction many of the times it will press that direction twice, and you can't turn your PS3 on and off with it (well, you can turn it off only by going through the XMB but you can't turn it on with it).

you don't like the official remote controller ?

He probably wants to use the same remote he has know. That's at least why I haven't bought the offical one. I hate juggling several remotes.

hmm i just use the controller :p

Do you even know why people buy universal remotes?

I hear the DS2 is wireless, and can turn the PS3 on and off.

It could, but you will have to get up find the controller turn the PS3 off first via the controller....so you might just as well used the universal remote via Nyko IR dongle to turn off the PS3.

If you have a universal remote you will understand why this is such a pain. It might seem like needless complain about PS3 but it's so nice to have "one" button that turn on or off everything in your home theater system.  Probably one reason my PS3 get used less than my 360.  I walk to my couch sat down and want to play something so it easier to hit my "360" actitivity function than have to get up again to get to my PS3 and manually turn it on.  Yes it sound lazy but after 10+ hours work night sometimes you just don't want to get off the you comfy couch again after you sat down.

Yes, exactly this.  I bought my universal remote because I don't want to juggle remotes and controllers.  Because the PS3 doesn't do IR, I either have to keep my DS3 around, get up and turn on my PS3, or just keep my PS3 on all day.
