Ex-Ensemble Developer Dusty Monk Starts Windstorm Studios

Yet another development house has risen from the ashes of Ensemble Studios. Joining Robot Entertainment and Bonfire Studios is Windstorm Studios. Headed up by ex-Ensemble developer Dusty Monk, Windstorm claims that its mission is to "bring a new era to online gaming". Right now, the company isn't showing anything more than a web site, which noted:

"We’re not quite ready to reveal all of the details of what we’re working on just yet, but we can promise you this -- it will be an online game unlike anything you’ve ever seen! We’re hard at work building technology, art, and environments to provide for you a new world and an online experience that’s a fresh and radical departure from the norm. If you’re eager to travel to some place new… some place you haven’t been before, then stay tuned!"

Well, in July 2010 Koh Samui will have a new W Hotel; it'll be new and I haven't been there before, so maybe Windstorm can help me get there. More seriously, this is a tough time to start a new business. As Bruce Shelley told me, getting adequate funding for a new venture will be difficult in 2009. Hopefully, Windstorm will have a bit of luck and gets some great people. I'd love it if Windstorm, Bonfire, and Robot all became raging successes, just to show Microsoft what a stupid move it was to shut down Ensemble. Perhaps I'm still bitter....
