I'm pretty sure the cause of the Adventure genre's decline was the rise PC Shooters. The Adventure genre has always been unexistent on consoles, so I don't see why the Playstation would affect it.
Thank lord the Adventure genre has been rising lately, though it's mostly because of Pc's digital distribution, not the DS (though it helped) and definitely not the Wii.
