Questions on today's monarchy?

I live in a country that has never had a monarchy (since we're independent, at least). And monarchy is something that I can't comprehend, as I don't know why someone would be superior to me just because s/he has "royal blood". At least that's me, but I'd never recognize a monarch in my country
