True to the character within those events.  Yes.

Otherwise your setting is pointless other then being used as an attention grabber.

 


Well you can have a story that stays true to the character and Events. It can be well done. But you can have a story based on true events ( Ie not entirely factual character wise) and it can be equal or better to the story that stays true to the events
