Given that it's sold a fraction on double the user base it's not really that brag worthy. All this shows is that the audience for this kind of game is drastically smaller than on the other consoles, and the % of wii owners interested in this sort of game is even more drastic compared to the other consoles.

An audience exists? Yes, but if the team that made WAW on wii had instead been split up and put making two much cheaper family party games would they have profited more? I think that is the real question the publishers will be looking at.

We always hear that the sure easy way to make a profit on the Wii is to make a party game and here we have the suggestion that the effort to make COD WaW with 1 million+ sales would have been more profitable making two party games instead. OK, let's look at some facts rather than snide comments.

I searched our game base for party games or similar games by searching for all games that had any of the following words: party, games, sports, play, or family. Maybe I missed something but I found 48 games that I would consider primarily party or family games. Of those 48 a grand total of 8 sold more than COD WaW Wii . 34 of them sold less than 200K, 22 less than 100K.

Sure, some party games have done well on the Wii. It's a console that lends itself to social and family participation. I personally think that's a healthy and good thing, but there is plenty of run for quality core games. Our more misanthropist friends who prefer to sequester themselves in isolation to play "hard core" games may claim all they want that all that sells on the Wii is party games and all party games sells gazillions; but the facts don't seem to back them up.

You should make a thread using that list to debunk the "only party game sell" notion.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
