Some of the most deluded playstation/sony fanatics do see this but they are so blinded by their love for playstation/sony that they think this is a totally acceptable cost for them to bear. |
You do know that Sony loses money on each PS3 sold right? They were losing more before but are still losing money now, how is that making the customer shoulder the price when you are willing to lose money to increase the BR/PS3 userbase? |
Because the general consensus is that the PS3 is $200 more expensive (at launch) because of Blu Ray. Many games consoles lose money as loss-leaders, in this case however the primary cause is the Blu Ray drive that Sony trojan-horsed into the console. Without the drive, people would have paid less, thus they have been made to shoulder a significant portion of the cost of promoting this format over HD DVD
