The crux of the matter is halo wars is the way it is because its a console rts, its not designed for pc play and thats why it works. I agree that things would need to be changed but adding needless complexity isn't the only option. The streamlining of resource management and base building isn't necessarily a bad thing when it comes to an RTS, it just changes the focus from resource gathering and economy to using the troops that you have effectively.

If you took out the streamlining then that would be such a fundamental change to the game it would hardly be the same anymore.  Also has you say there would definately need to be changes or the game just wouldn't sell in its current state.  Its not really needless complexity if its expected in a market, if you ported a FPS game to PC that was missing fundamentally expected features from the audience then it will tank.
