I wonder if you realize that if X360 hadn't just released Star Ocean a week or two ago, their Japan numbers would be even lower... The point is that even being twice the cost of entry, the X360 is still having trouble with worldwide dominance over hardware sales. That should have MS shaking. MS is about out of price cuts, but they still have similar hardware sales to a console twice the cost of entry. Then, with the current quality line up of games, a PS3 price cut could be quite vicious toward the competition. It's starting to become clear to people that the nasty negative press towards the PS3 is unfounded, so they are starting to ignore it. It might even be pushing a lot of people towards the PS3 (opposite of the desired effect). For 2008, PS3 worldwide hardware sales were only 30K behind X360. That says it all.

So Microsoft couldn't do anything to increase the value of their console other than cutting the price, for example they couldn't release new models (slim for example) or limited edition colour models. They can release bigger software bundles as well as still adding more value by adding wifi in as standard too for example. Microsoft have plenty of options for the future its the blinded Sony fanboys who cannot see which company is shaking. Of the two companies being discussed in this thread one of them made a huge financial loss while the other made 4 billion profit, I wonder which one is really happy at that scenario.
There is no nasty negative press directed at the PS3, its just fanboys who cannot see it for the truth it is. Look at the sales of the PS2 then compare to the PS3, its a failure on those terms as well as the fact its only ever lost money.
