Mercenary is probably the last line you see when you select play ( the ??????).
My guess is that it's unlocked when you beat the game.
If it's like Re4 you get to fight hordes of enemies with a timer and you can extend the timer by picking up stuff, the goal is to stay alive and kill as many as possible...
PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !
PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
