How can any fan be happy for this news?

The story is over, it's more than over, a new entry to the series means that Konami is ready to crap all over the narrative in exchange for your money. This is commercialization, no longer art.

A new MGS game will most likely;

-Screw up the storyline even more so than MGS4 did.
-Contain less cutscenes and dilute or play down the deep themes of the series.
-Focus more purely on the gameplay aspect.

^^Neither of that would be true to MGS, so Konami should be condemned for not creating a new I.P if they want to keep creating stealth action games. What they are doing is continuing a saga that is already over. How would you feel if your favorite book got an unwarranted sequel as a simple attempt at cashing in on the brand name? You would probably resent the idea, why is it different with a narrative driven video game?

How in the name of God did MGS4 screw up the story line, it answerd many questions that needed answering and is a fantastic game, an epic title and deserves a mini sequel or a massive prequel!

There are several plotholes and inconsistencies with the story of previous entries. Certain elements such as Raiden, Maryl and Akiba and Big Boss are nothing but fanservice, and no true artist or work of art should ever compromise to external forces -such as demands made by fans. The entire game is a fan service, afterall Kojima didn't even want to create it had it not been or massive fan pressure. Other characters such as Vamp were paper thin, and the gameplay was compromised in order to appeal to a wider audiance. MGS2 was the last true stand in the series, both MGS3 and 4 afterwards did too much to try and please "fans" rather than stay bold and true to Kojima's vision and message.
