If everyone who committed a crime like that was in prison, we'd have maybe a quarter of the population in jail. It probably costs fifty thousand per inmate per year to keep them in the kind of condition current prisoners get (TV, free education, trips out) plus guards and maintenance.

What I'm trying to say is that, while these people may deserve prison, it's totally infeasible to put all criminals of that level in prison.
