I still think that the impact the TC is talking about is more than just sales, its sales and quality and the way FF7 is in the "legendary" status with games like OoT.

So pokemon may have sold more, but wont do what FF7 has done, it has the potential to do it, since it sells so much, but quality improvements are needed.

Sort of both, Yes. Pokemon has achieved Legendary status because it's so well known, but that has to do with the mass marketting that pokemon has recieved. Trading Cards, Anime Series, Spin-off games, Tamagatchi pets even! Many of those who have watched the anime show may be interested in buying the game because its a video-game based off a anime show they watch.

um the anime is based on the games

the game came out February 27, 1996

the anime came out in April 1, 1997

-----------------------------------------------

pokemon red blue and green is the best selling jrpg to date with over 30 million in sales

the series as a whole has sold over 186 million

it spawned a trading card series spinoffs a anime series and 12 movies

there were no kids when i was growing up who didn't know of pokemon all most none played final fantasy 7

I saw the anime, that got me into playing the games, and it did with all the people I know, you saw the anime and said:Hey, there is a game too; and played it later. You can explain this just by knowing that pikachu is the most known pokemon and that is thanks to the series, since no one cared about it in pokemon red/blue. And that many people though the game was a product of the anime.

And who cares if kids knew about it, Seven Samurai(seven Lol) is one of the most influencial movies and not much people know about it unless they know something about movies, even though it inspired many movies later.
