Good point, SmokedHostage. I never even think of the Pokémon-series as JRPGs, but yeah, that series is way more influental and made more impact than FF7 could ever hope to do on it's own.

Yes, the Entire Pokemon series definately blows final fantasy 7 out of the water. But that's 4 generations of games, from Blue, to Silver, to Saphire, to Pearl and all the other pokemon games in comparison to 1. Pokemon Blue on it's own however? I think Final Fantasy 7 definately beats it. Comparing a series of games to 1 isn't exactly fair.

Pokemon Series > Final Fantasy 7

Final Fantasy 7 > Any Single Pokemon Game.

I beg to differ. I just wrote series because I wasn't sure which single game to choose. Pokémon R/B blow FF7 out of the water. Just choosing Red or Blue also beats FF7, I'd say, for sure. There's really no competition at all.

I believe Pokemon is the bigger RPG, but Its just so cliche that some might not see it greater than FF7.

Each pokemon game consist of almost exactly the same formula:

-start off in some small town, see the town scientist to get your first pokemon (1 of 3 that you'll only ever get)

-have some rival person to battle you time to time

-have some kind of Team Rocket to 'ruin' the day and battle you time to time as well

-go to every gym in the game and gym battle to recieve a pokemon move thatll be useful later

-battle a group of elite pokemon champs near the end of the game

-find the limited new legendary pokemons in the game

-all pokemon are exact same. Pikachu will only look like Pikachu etc. (I know FF games have the same monsters and summons but they all look different each game)

...im sure the new Pokemon game wont be any different. If only they made this type of game for console then that would be something new.
