The problem i see with labels such as socialist or social democrat is that they can describe a large number of people with various views. Its not a lock step definition and leaves a lot of grey areas.
Do i personally believe that Obama's Keynesian ecocnomic policy will stop this recession? No. Do I believe the republicans offered an alternative that wasnt exact the same as Obama's? No, George Bush was front and center on the bailouts to begin with and not differentiating your politcal policy from your opponents is a sure way to loose elections.
This is what I believe was the problem, the Repubicans abandoned their small government platform because they had the power and decided to use it abd spend like drunken sailor or pork instead of doing what was best for America and lowering governmental spending.
