For those 3 my order of preference would be
1. Halo 3
2. (TIE) Killzone 2 & Gears 2
I love the Halo mythos a lot. That's why even though the story was somewhat of a disappointment in Halo 3, the story telling and music got to me moreso than the other two games. I've read the first two books and anyone who says that the Halo universe is shallow would be greatly mistaken. I could only imagine how great a game/movie based on Master Chief's upbringing would be.
Gears 2 and Killzone 2 are tied for me because they both appealed to me in different ways despite many people comparing the two. Gears 2 had a truly epic campaign. I loved the fact that the gameplay mechanics and mission objectives and what you're doing on the screen is changing quite often. The mixed mission objectives made the campaign feel fresh and enjoyable. In a contrasting note, Killzone 2 felt very repetitive in campaign objectives. It was pretty much just "Take this location from the enemy. Kill everyone." And the "everyone" isn't varied much. However, the gameplay is so visceral and immersive that it is enjoyable despite being repetitive. It keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Halo 3's gameplay is just the most enjoyable to me. It feels more fun to me than the other two and the plethora of modes and game configurations makes it that much more enjoyable. The theatre adds in on that fun. Having friends over and playing and then watching the best parts in slow motion is simply put - Good times.
