ET for the Atari.

Superman for the N64.

Battletoads for the NES.

 

If you are going for tortureously hard, you should replace Battletoads with Triggerman.  Not only is Triggerman really hard, but it is also a crappy game.

 

Interesting suggestion.  I've never heard of it but I'll check it out.
