From Wiki:
"Watchmen features a story within a story in the form of Tales of the Black Freighter, a fictional comic book from which scenes appear in issues three, five, eight, nine, ten, and eleven. The fictional comic's story, "Marooned", is read by a black youth in New York City.[23] Moore and Gibbons conceived a pirate comic because they reasoned that since the characters of Watchmen experience superheroes in real life, "they probably wouldn't be at all interested in superhero comics."

This story within a story was something I haven't seen before when I first read the comic.

@Johann and okr

arrrr - that sounds great. I can see why they probably didn't feel therE was space and time in the film to fit that in though. Not to mention it probably would've added to the confusion some people felt. I'll be ordering the DVD anyway but this gives me one more reason not to feel guilty about the expense!

"There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

"Watchmen" is far better than The Dark Knight / Why does no-one own this wonderful game: Fragile Allegiance? / Speak (Type) Italian to me!
