I think Will Wright and Sid Meier belong lower on the list, with Gunpei Yokoi being at least third. Mr. Yokoi is the entire reason we even have a handheld market today. Every... single... game that exists as a handheld... has been influenced by his development and engineering prowess.
Granted, that's more of a hardware development thing and not quite as much software, but the article only implies that. It's still videogame development.
