Canada is a state of the USA, it wouldn't make sense to have a whole different country between the main bunch of states and Alaska. That would be like suggesting that Russia has a small slice of land just north of Poland.

I must tell you that my ancestors fought countless wars to keep this big empty slice of land very Canadian (with a few human settlements here and there)! Though, I have to agree that we are not very "self-sufficient" and often require the help of our friends on the other side of the border... In other words, if they catch a cold there, we catch it as well.
With all that said, I don't get rocks thrown at me if I go visit other countries. o_O

Haha, well... I'm just saying that only the bottom part of Canada is very populated. The rest is just cold, snowy, and full of mooses. Mooses. And polar bears. Yeah.
@Aj-habfan: I don't know about you, but at least they don't use it here past elementary school in Quebec. I should edit that out.
