This article leaves me to believe that there could be some truth in all this speculation:

http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/sony-signs-new-ps3-manufacturer-for-low+price-models-300217.php

Han Hai, also more commonly known as Foxxcon, is not a new supplier for Sony, they handle a lot of the PS2 lines.

This is just Sony shuting down an old PS2 line and converting it to PS3. There is not price offsetting here, it's just diverting product lines from old product to new product.

Some sites take a crumb of news and bake a loaf of stinky bread with it.

The title of the article alone is completely misleading if not downright inaccurate. Foxconn/Hon Hai is not a new PS3 manufacturer as they have been manufacturing PS3s from the beginning. If you don't believe me do a google search yourself and you will find numerous articles stating Foxconn/Hon Hai were manufacturing PS3s as early as mid-2006. They have also been making the Wii and Xbox 360.
