On single player, Sheva makes sure you don't die. Your sidekick is smarter in that regard. When you're dying and need help getting off your knees, Sheva makes you her priority. So, that helps (almost too much) in boss fights.
It's a co-op game first, so Sheva is always there doing something.
The difficulties available at the start are Easy, Normal and Hard. I played Normal and regret it. I've died a few times, but it's too easy. At least, easier than RE4's Normal.
