Props for recommending one of my favorite anime movies. But considering that the person in question is a "she" and new to the medium, Millennium Actress might not be the best choice. Tokyo Godfathers might be a better choice.
OT: why not try Honey and Clover? Girls mostly love the "slice of life" genre, and since Maison Ikkoku(anime) hasnt really stood the test of time, thats the best show to go with. My second recommendation would be Ah!My Goddess. FMA is a brilliant show, but later on, it becomes quite intense, so id advise against going with it
