Call me pessimistic but I'm guessing that's what happened.

there is a good chance of that too, but honestly I don't know any parents who just buy a game in the first day for a kid unless they asked for it.

 

 

  • birthday
  • special occasion like first communion or confirmation (people actually get gifts for religious things like that)
  • kid asked for one game, they didn't have it (very likely with Gamestop if it's a new game), mother got another
  • kid is spoiled

I could probably come up with reasons all day why the kid might get a random gift
