About the mood of the game it is definitely different than previous RE games. the biggest difference is the number of enemies. Because you have twice the fire power with a partner the amount of enemies has doubled. This makes the big fights on open ground very confusing. Enemies come from all directions and are hard to keep track of. So it is frightening in the sense that you have to fight your way out of a situation rather than run and find yourself caught between more enemies. Also playing on normal the character takes more damage than previous games. This is because of the buddy system. If you lose all your life you can be revived by a partner. In this state you have a secondary emergency health bar which when depletd means certain death. So you need to heal yourself right away. And the game understands this. There are much more herbs scattered throughout the levels. In this sense the game is more action paced. More health, more enemies, more ammo. But that does not mean it hasnt retained its creepy elements. Some stuff from this game is straight up gory. And the enemies are more realistic than ever. They also take more ammo to take down especially the tougher ones. Head shots and grenade use are very important. Otherwise you can easily be overrun by Manjini (as the zombies are referred to).
A lot of people feel the game has lost its RE feeling but I would disagree. There are not as many puzzle aspects but it is similar to RE4 in many ways. Its definitley worth a playthrough, even if it cant meet everyones expectations.
