I read something explaining how Amazon calculates it's sales rankings once, but can't remember any of it. =P
Just that there's some sort of scoring system based on how much is sold in what time period, and that score will deteriorate with time. That's why you'll see WiiFit or the Wii constantly near the top even though it's usually sold out. Because of that price cut, discounted, or deal items usally jump up the chart because of a lot of loyal Amazon customers buy them right away, and then they quickly sink off because few other people were interested.
