Why are people so threatened by the Wii?

There is a few million people who will pay $600 - $800 for PS3 right now though.

 

 A few million people sounds about right, but the problem is the install base, what good will a $300 price tag do sony in 2009 at the earliest if the Wii already has 3x the install base by then?  Sony's taken a gamble this generation, and the odds of it paying off for them have begun to slowly diminish, because "future proof" is only an idea, not reality.
