I remember buying my son a PS2 for Christmas, trying it out myself before I wrapped it then promptly returning it to the store due to the feeling I was buying an enhanced PS1 but at an extortionate price!
He got a N64 Pikachu edition that Christmas instead and a PS2 didn't enter the house until 2 years later.
