It won't work straight from your ipod; it has to do with the way Apple stores music on it.
Best bet is to grab software like YamiPod and extract your tunes from your iPod that way (you might need to work the tags a little)
After that, it's pretty simple, copy the MP3's to a thumb drive, FAT formatted external HDD or even back to your ipod as MP3 files using disk mode and plug it into a USB port on your PS3
go to Music on your XMB and it should show your plugged in device. highlight it and push "Triangle" to bring up the context menu. select "Display All" and then navigate to whereever your MP3s are.
Press triangle again and select "multiple copy", and either select all or the tracks you want to copy over and click ok
The transfer should begin.
Again, you might want to rework the track info (Triangle, Information, Edit) or add some to a playlist or whatever

If you copy your MP3's to a folder on your device called x:\PS3\MUSIC (all caps where x is the drive letter of your device on your PC) you won't need to choose display all; as soon as you select your drive in the XMB your music will show up straight away and you can copy from there
