Sony - Price Cut Imminent - View Post

No BD is pure stupidity, games are on BD. And BD cost drops just like any other component, the only dilemma for Sony is dropping price now and losing more, or in the best case earning less, to increase sales now and recover later from more royalties earlier thanks to increased games and, also, earlier cost drops thanks to more mass production economies, or dropping later when costs already dropped enough thanks to economies of scales given by the current production rate, this would avoid losses in the short term, and give a more positive balance on interests, also in the short term, but it could undermine future growth, although cutting price before Xmas would be a compromise that would minimize cut losses still almost maximizing their positive return on sales.
What's sure is that as time passes and fewer weeks remain before mid Autumn, the advantage from anticipating a cut decreases. Only combining it with a succession of very big releases an early cut could really be effective, while for a Xmas cut this hasn't to be organized, often then releases are even too many.
There is only one argument really in favour of an early cut: all these rumours about one are damaging current sales.
