Why are people so threatened by the Wii?

Gameplay wise it never has..price wise...That doesn't bother me, I understand why it goes and will be patient as I know over time those prices will always drop off enough so anyone can buy it. I just think they should make the systems upgradable and have them last longer than 6 years, maybe 10 to 15 so people can buy them later at a smaller price and still have games come out for years.
