Nintendo have already stated that they expect the Wii ti have a lifespan of 4-6 years (and closer to the 4 year mark). In a lot of ways, the Wii is an experiment. Nintendo wasn't very happy with the, so they tried to do something different. I think they like the results this time around. What you will see next time, is a more complete manufacturing process - and more units out for launch. It could be hard to do, but imagine if they had stockpiled 10mill units for a *real* worldwide launch.
