I'm still rocking an 8800 and playing all my new games on full settings (19" monitor, my most recent games being Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Rise of the Argonauts, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, Crysis Warhead and Call of Duty: World at War, and I'm still playing Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead). You can get good performance on lesser cards as long as you're not trying to rock a 24" monitor or something.
