I say we switch the word 'marijuana' with gun in this argument. Should we criminalize posession of guns? No that's dumb I mean, criminals would get them anyways and then you would create a black market for them.
Of course guns and drugs aren't the same but the logic behind banning or legalizing them is pretty much the same. Guns are legal, alcohol is legal, tobacco is legal and not everyone owns a gun and abuses it, drinks alcohol and abuses it, or smokes (in general). I imagine you wouldn't see much greater levels of drug abuse as long as you tried to educate people.
