The super famicom had download content via the actual internet. 

It's nothing new, the nets been around since the 1960s, transferring games back then too :)

If I remember correctly the original famicom tried it's hand at some sort of download service but don't quote me on that.

Seems like it was nitnendos version of the Sega Channel idea. Prolly pretty cool think to have if you're in Japan.

I think N64 hads something similar too.
