similar to 3870???...3870 benchmark score 4889 vs 9600GT's 4256....that doesn't seem similar....3850 scores a 4275...which is actually a little closer to the 9600GT....and for those who have had seen the difference between 3850 and 3870...there is a big difference...so in that sense it's not similar....and that was the 256mb version of the 3850 which the 9600GT is similar to...had we compared to the 512 mb version of the 3850...then the 9600GT would no longer be similar to the 3850.. 3DMark is practically useless for judging video card performance. I may be an AMD fan, but the 3870 is clearly behind the 9600GT in real games. It's irrelevant though because the 46xx series is a better option. 3870 would be a little more similar to the 8800 GT which has a score of 4970...those 2 video cards are infact very close rivals stated by many pc magazines...but 8800 GT always edging out the 3870 until they tested the card with CF vs SLi...which in that case the 3870 CF would have better benchmark score than 8800GT SLi but the 4750...no benchmark right now...but oh wow is all i can say....this vid card looks very promising...hopefully it won't turn out to be like the same promising vid card that the 4600 series were....now i think i might hold off on buying two of the 3870 and wait to get two of the 4750 instead.... No benchmark? The review link has lots of them, and though it may be pre-release these will be very close to the real thing. |

"Crap, this throws a bit of a wrench in my plans to replace my current PC, which is starting to show multiple little signs of failure. What does everyone think I should do? I wanted to replace my computer before it craps out, and had plans to start assembling a system this weekend, but with this video card not coming in until April, is the difference between a 4850 now and a 4750 then worth it?"
Well, the 4850 will be faster than an RV740 chip. It's not clear whether a faster 4850 replacement is coming in April, but on balace I'd say go with the 4850 now.
