It was like Doom, but with somewhat superior presentation, cooler environments, and a genuine story told through computer terminals instead of totally mindless killing. I'll never forget how I almost pissed my pants the first time I heard a B.O.B scream, "They're everywhere!"
And I realized right after that last post that I wasn't paying proper respect to the true fledgling 3D games, presented on 8-bit computers in glorious wireframe! I never was hardcore enough to properly play Firebird Elite, even though I took the manual with me to the cottage one summer and studied real hard. I would just crash my noob face into the first Coriolis station I tried to dock with.
