For people looking to compare the best of 2008, here's the exclusive full releases with scores of 85+, according to Metacritic:
PS3
PS3 had the following games exclusive from the 360:
- LBP: 95
- MGS4: 94
- Valkyria Chronicles: 87
- Resistance 2: 87
- MLB08: 85
360
360 had the following games exclusive from the PS3:
- GeoW2: 93
- Left 4 Dead: 90
- Fable 2: 89
That's a clear win for PS3. However, when you look at the PSN/Arcade side of things, it's a very different picture:
PS3
PS3 had the following games exclusive from the 360:
- WipEout HD: 87
Further, a case can be made for Burnout Paradise (87) being exclusive, as it was available on the PSN, but not XBL (although it was available as a 360 disk release); however, given the 360's line-up, it makes little difference.
360
360 had the following games exclusive from the PS3:
- Braid: 93
- Portal: 90
- GW2: 90
- Rez HD: 89
- Ikaruga: 88
That's a resounding win for 360.
So, for full releases, PS3 certainly seemed to have the upper hand last year when we judge the high quality (as judged by Metacritic's sources) releases. However, the best of the smaller, downloadable games were of far better quality on the 360 last year (again, according to Metacritic).
Seem fair to everyone?
