Hey Kasz, what elements did you enjoy in the Final Fantasy games you liked?

Thank you for the really thoughtful and detailed response.

I agree with most everything you mentioned minus FF5 and FFT.  I don't like systems that make all the characters the same essentially.  That was something I didn't really like about FF7 and FF8--characters just didn't feel unique.  For FFT, I enjoyed the battle system (I love tactics-style games too), but I hated the story.  It utterly failed to interest me or give me an attachment to any character.  By comparison, I can play a Disgaea game with a very simple story but terrific writing and get attached to the characters within an hour.

I don't like systems that make characters the same either.... unless there is vast amount of variety and a decent amount of balance.

Which is the problem i had with 7,8 and even the last part of 6 as the special abilites began to efll away and their predertimed stats were washed away by esper gains.

I agree about Final Fantasy Tactics not really being engaging.  I still thought the story was ok though.  I just didn't conect with anyone in it.  Unlike the Tactics games.

Really the main character was kinda unlikeable...
