Pokey says as the battle begins that his mind was destroyed by his own power and he speaks in nothing but screaming sentence fragments during the time that he actually vocalizes anything. I'd say that that's pretty clearly more than "just someone who got too powerful and lost his body who wants to conquer the world".

I dunno.  Seems like it would be pretty hard to vocalize anything if you lose your body and you're fighting four psychic children trying to murder your soul.
