Digital distribution will be far far bigger than Blu Ray. See Blu Ray still has ways to go before it even fathoms replacing DVD. I just don't think it will replicate the success of DVD. What we will see though is internet speeds sky rocketing over the next few years with ever cheaper and bigger hard drives. Sony knows digital distribution is a threat to Blu Ray but knows it can't stop it so has wisely taken some steps to be ready for the digital distribution take off (which is already happening).
Sony messed up with Minidisc vs MP3, I don't think they will let their previous arrogance mess up with Blu Ray vs Digital Distribution.
